Driving Consistently Towards The Goal…Author Deepak Parmar

DRIVING CONSISTENTLY TOWARDS THE GOAL

Behavioral science says that we can achieve any of our goals if we are able to remember and repeat the same for at least twenty one days. It sounds good but not an easy walk. Many of us struggle to achieve our professional and personal goals. Broadly we can find three types of people in the world.

CATEGORY I: A person who has either no goal or has never tried to achieve the goal falls under this category. There is no meaning of such life. A Person in this category is just like a frog in a small pond. His vision is limited to the pond he lives in with absolutely no vision.

CATEGORY II: A person who has a goal in life and tries to achieve the same too, but leaves the mission midway after one, two or three unsuccessful attempts; falls under this category. List of people in this category is very long. Almost all of us try for something for sometimes. If we don’t succeed, we tend to curse any situation or any person or anything else other than ourselves. We forget to try the same thing differently. So, result is obviously not in our favor. A Person in this category tries to dig a few feet at ten different places to draw water and obviously does not get result anywhere. We must dig deep at one place after proper survey of probability of water at that place.

CATEGORY III: A person in this category never quits the game. One, two or any numbers of failures do not deter such person. He counts every failure as a ladder to the success. It’s an opportunity to improve further for such a person. We must remember how many failures Thomas Alva Edison faced before he finally invented a bulb.  Everyone wants to be in this category, as the song of success is heard from this bucket only. But person in this category are very few and can be counted on fingers.  Whatever we want to achieve should reach out to our deep root. If it reaches only to our conscious mind, it won’t work to the extent we want. It has tendency to slip, as the road is full of distracters.  Swami Vivekananda once described our mind as a young, powerful and naughty monkey, who has gone mad and is now drunk. Just imagine a situation. This is a main reason, why many of us are distracted from the path we sought for the success. In this era of powerful social media network; distracters have become even more powerful. So, it’s absolutely necessary that our goal should reach to our deep root. It should reach to our subconscious mind. Our whole existence should absorb our goal and speak only one common language of the goal.

When Dronacharya asked Arjuna about the bird on a tree, he could see only the bird’s eye. All others were able to see everything around the bird.  In fact, all others were right. Because in reality, there was an existence of tree, its branches, its leaves, its flowers, a bird, its feathers and many things along with a bird’s eye.  In the same way, it is also a reality that everything around our goal exists. But we must be able to see only our goal. If it happens, no one can stop us from hitting the bird’s eye.

Let us take example of another great archer, Eklavya. He learnt the archery without any formal teaching or training. He gathered his whole existence and learnt from the idol of Dronacharya. His whole learning process was inside out.  He just used the idol as a medium to uncover the knowledge from within. This can happen only, if every single atom of our body desires to accomplish something.

If we take an example of any successful person in this world, we will find many failures in the life. But they all believed in a single mantra, “Never quit the show”.

How to develop this attitude and how to put ourselves in this category is a major question. There are many ways shown by many. We can use “The Seven habits of highly effective people” by Stephen R Covey or “SAVERS”, a success formula of six morning habits given by Hal Elrod, author of “The miracle Morning”.  If we follow these healthy habits, nobody can stop us from achieving what we really want. In fact many of us might have tried to practice also. But, after a few days of full momentum, our mind starts giving excuses and most of us fail to continue the momentum. We need a little extra to drive us to the third category of winners. Determination, discipline and consistency must be there to achieve the goal.  So, my emphasize is on the very basic question which bothered me a lot before I explored this technique and must be bothering many of us.

How to keep the momentum? How to follow the good habits consistently? How to drive consistently till we reach to the goal?

India is a source of yogic techniques. It is said that there are about 112 techniques of meditation. I have also tried to learn some of the techniques. Let us see one of such techniques to drive consistently towards our goal till we achieve it.

Let us say we do not even know our goal. So, we will start from scratch. We will call a pool of our affirmative sentences as our “Goal attractor”. So, our goal attractor may be as per the below:

Thanks to the universal power; I am aware of my goal.
Thanks to my existence; I am reaching to my goal.
Thanks to my whole body and mind; I am reaching to my goal.
Thanks to the every atom of my body; I am reaching to my goal.
Let us be happy; I am reaching to my goal.
Let us celebrate; I am reaching to my goal.

Now, let us understand the steps of the technique.

STEP 1: Let us take a comfortable sitting position. We may sit in vajrasana.

STEP 2: Slowly start Inhaling. The process should be slow and consistent. During this process we should chant in mind our goal attractor as we mentioned above. A stage will come when we may fill like full and can’t inhale any further. Try to breadth in slowly but to its peak with repetition of goal attractor. It should be consistent and loud in mind. More we desire to exhale now, more the intensity of our chanting of goal attractor should be.

STEP 3: Now hold for a while with repetition of goal attractor in mind.

STEP 4: Slowly start releasing the breadth with goal attractor in mind. After a certain time we will feel empty. But, still there is some room. Exhale the minimal remained within. We may feel as if we are just about to die. Our every atom may ask for a sigh of breadth. But in that moment also, we will try to exhale remaining air with goal attractor loud and frequent in our mind.

After testing our tolerance limit we can slowly breadth in and be relaxed for a few moments. Let our eyes closed for the entire process and goal attractor always be in mind

This is a one round of the process. For an effective result, we have to complete five to six rounds in a seating. This comprises a cycle. We have to repeat this cycle at least thrice a day.

One of the two occasions is in the morning in front of the Sun and other in the night just before we go the bed. Morning cycle will act as a source of our all actions for the day. In the night, there should be nothing after this. We should sleep with gratitude for achieving our goal. Entire existence should be grateful for the goal to everything and everyone in our life.  Third may be any time when we get time. It may be a mini cycle of three rounds instead of five to six.

If we are able to continue it for twenty one days, nobody can distract us from our goal. As there are specific steps, it’s easy to have consistency in this technique. This technique can be highly effective for an organization, if its employees start following it.

By products of the technique:

As an organization, if we implement these every day morning and evening as a ritual by putting our vision as a goal attractor in this technique, we can do miracles.  A cool Zone or space of ten minutes may be provided to our staff members to practice mini cycle of three rounds in day time. It will be highly effective in terms of efficiency of our organization.

  • It makes our morning energizing and exciting.
  • It acts as an instant energizer and gives us freshness of morning whenever we do it.
  • It increases effectiveness of the sleep.  Hence, contributes in freshness of body and mind.
  • It controls our abdomen growth as it burns lots of calories.
  • It improves our health as it revives all cells of the body.
  • It removes stress from the roots because of the turbulence in the whole body and mind.
  • It may cure many prolonged diseases due to freshness in every cell of the body.
  • It increases efficiency in every aspect of our lives.
  • It increases concentration and hence increases accuracy in our work.
  • It breaks prejudices and preconceived notions, and opens door for creative ideas for excellence.
  • It gives inherent smile on our face. Difference can be felt by everyone around us in three weeks.
  • It helps us to connect with ourselves.
  • It confirms sense of gratitude for the universe and for everyone.
  • It removes our emotional imbalance, anger and hatred.
  • It uncovers happiness hidden in our lives.

We have to take care to keep our goal attractor very precise and focused. The sentences shown are just illustrations. We have to take just one or two sentences as our goal attractor as per our goal.  We have to take affirmative sentences only for a better result.

For example, “We will not allow to raise any customer complain” may not work.  Our sub-conscious mind may pick up a word on its face.  So, by putting the word “customer complains” in repetition, we may harm ourselves. Instead “We are the best in customer service” is a better option.

We can use this technique in developing a culture of driving consistently towards the goal till we achieve it.  It can definitely help us in achieving personal as well as the organizational goal.
